New lower-cost plans are available now

Nevada has launched Battle Born State Plans (BBSPs) β€” a new category of coverage offered exclusively through Nevada Health Link. They carry the same essential benefits, protections, and cost-sharing reductions as other Marketplace plans, but with built-in premium discounts that apply regardless of your income.

Already enrolled through Nevada Health Link? You can compare and switch to a Battle Born State Plan during Open Enrollment (Nov 1 – Dec 31). Not sure if a BBSP is right for you? Let's look at it together.

  • Same essential benefits & protections as other Qualified Health Plans
  • Offered exclusively through Nevada Health Link (not HealthCare.gov)
  • Enroll or switch during Open Enrollment, Nov 1 – Dec 31 β€” or anytime with a qualifying life event

Questions, Answered

Frequently asked questions

The basics, in plain language. Have one that's not here? Just ask Lisa.

What is individual health insurance?+
Coverage you buy for yourself or your family β€” either through the ACA Marketplace (where income-based subsidies may be available) or as a private off-exchange plan (no subsidies, with different networks and underwriting). It's a fit if you're self-employed, between jobs, an early retiree not yet on Medicare, or without an affordable employer plan.
ACA vs. private health insurance β€” what's the difference?+
Both cover medical care, but they differ in pricing and access. ACA Marketplace plans offer income-based subsidies and guaranteed issue β€” no medical underwriting β€” across standardized Bronze–Platinum tiers. Private off-exchange plans can offer different networks and year-round enrollment, but may ask health questions. If you qualify for a subsidy or have pre-existing conditions, ACA is almost always the better fit.
How do ACA subsidies work, and will I qualify?+
Your household size and estimated income set a monthly tax credit (premium tax credit) that lowers your premium β€” sometimes dramatically. Eligibility is determined during Open Enrollment or after a qualifying life event. If your income is roughly 100–250% of the federal poverty level, you may also qualify for cost-sharing reductions on Silver plans, which lower your deductibles and copays.
Can I keep my doctor on an ACA or private plan?+
It depends on each plan's network. Lisa checks your doctors and prescriptions first, then shortlists only the ACA and private plans that include them β€” so you're choosing from plans you can actually use. It's always smart to confirm directly with your provider's office before you enroll.
Deductible, coinsurance & out-of-pocket max β€” how do they work?+
You pay your deductible first, then share costs (coinsurance and copays) until you reach your out-of-pocket maximum β€” after that, your plan pays 100% for covered care. A supplemental gap plan can help offset big bills with cash benefits.

General educational information only β€” not insurance, tax, or legal advice. Plan rules, networks, subsidies, and costs vary by plan, carrier, and your situation. Verify specifics before you enroll.
